Over 500 people attended the annual Labor Day Encuentro gathering on Sept. 6 at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington. The event, which is sponsored by the diocese’s Office of Hispanic Ministry, provides an opportunity for Latino youth, young adults and adults from parishes across Long Island to gather and celebrate their faith and heritage.
Bishop John Barres concelebrated a Spanish-language Mass with the auxiliary bishops Richard Henning, and Luis Miguel Romero, and 20 priests, in the seminary chapel. Our hispanic young adult group, Nuevo Amanecer, were the choir at mass. Following Mass, participants assembled in the picnic area, where they dined on barbecued meats and a variety of ethnic foods.
